Administrative Account

Getting Signed-Up with Click2Sell Administrative Account
The company is Click2Sell who is one of the largest NON-USA work-at-home admin account provider for online payroll accounts and digital product companies to work for.

The administrative account you will want to sign-up for is Click2Sell. I`m going to walk you through sign up process with Click2Sell which will establish your sign up with all of the hundreds of companies listed with Click2Sell.

After you have been directed to the home page,
click on the "SIGN UP" option on the upper right of page.

Start by choosing an account username and password

Next enter your personal information such as name, address, country, phone, etc.

You will then select how you want to be paid. You will enter EITHER your PayPal Email ID OR your Moneybookers Email ID.

Skip the MERCHANTS: section as you are NOT a merchant.

You are an affiliate so you will check off EITHER the PayPal option or Moneybookers option.

You can then select the currency of choice.

After filling in all of your information and check off the agreement to Click2Sell terms, you will need to enter the captcha and then click "SIGN UP NOW"

After you have clicked the "Sign Up Now" you will receive a notification of confirmation being sent to your e-mail address.

Go to your e-mail address and your Click2Sell account details will be there.


Logging into your Click2Sell account
To login to your Click2Sell account go to http://www.Click2Sell.eu, then select "LOGIN" located on the upper right portion of page. On the "LOGIN" page you will use your Username and the Password you chose at signup. After you have entered your username and password click "SUBMIT" and go to the next section of training.

Your Click2Sell Account Features
After you have clicked on "Login" you will be brought to your Click2Sell account home page shown above, which is actually the "Report" page.

A. Account Home	This is the page you will be on when you first log into your Click2Sell account home page, which is actually your earnings report page. Here you will be able to see your current earnings for that day. You can also do searches for earnings by a particular date, weekly, monthly, etc.
B. For Affiliates	This page will list the current companies you are submitting links for as we will go over a little later on that process of submitting your Click2Sell links for pay.
C. Payments	Here you can search for payments currently owed for your work, or previous payments made to you for your work.
D. Marketplace	The "Marketplace" is where you will get the promotion links for the companies you want to work with. We will go over exactly how to do that in the next section of training.
E. Daily Sales Subtotals	This will display the daily, weekly, monthly, etc. earnings with more details.

IMPORTANT: You will be considered an "AFFILIATE" for Click2Sell and you will not need to know any of the "MERCHANT" features in Click2Sell. To avoid confusion, I suggest to not even click on the "For Merchant" option.

How to Select the Companies in Click2Sell
I`m going to show you how to locate and select the companies to work for in your Click2Sell account. I will show you how your pay will be determined based upon each company's offer to you.

How to Select Companies for:

you will need to log into your Click2Sell account HERE


After you are logged into your account, click on the "MARKETPLACE" button on top right of page

That will take you to the following page:

You will have three options: A. Search the Click2Sell Marketplace: Here you can search for a particular company, or a type of product or service offered. B. List of Categories: You also have the option to search for companies by categories, and sub-categories such as "Marketing & Promotion," "Business 2 Business," etc. For example, if you wanted to find the company for diets you would look for them under "Health Care." C. Click2Sell Companies: In this section is where the actual companies you can choose from will be displayed. I will show you in the next section how to select the company of your choice and get your promotion link which will be used in your data submissions in the posting section of our program for earnings.

For our tutorial click on "Business 2 Business" on the list of categories.

Then scroll down to the list of available Click2Sell companies.

Here are the basics of the companies listed: A. Rank: The rank of the company listed in the Marketplace is based on the popularity. This is not a major factor in determining the companies you want to use. B. Product: This will list the company details on what they offer on their Web site. If you click on the green highlighted text it will open a separate window of the company's actual Web site for you to view more details of their product and do any research you want. C. Price: This is the price the company charges for their product. You are not going to buy anything so this is not relevant to your selection. D. Earn %: This is the amount you will be paid for each posting/sale from the companies product sale price. (Example: If the companies product sale price is $50. and the 'Commission" amount for this product you will be paid is 50%, then you would earn $25 for each posting/sale you do for this company. E. Earn Total: This is the exact calculated amount you will earn for this company based on the flat rate or % in section D. F. Details: The DETAILS section will allow you two options; one is to get more information on the company by clicking on the "MORE INFO." option, and two is to get your promotion link for the company by clicking on the "PROMOTE" option. G. Promote: If you were to decide to work for any of the Click2Sell companies this is where you will get your affiliate promotion link that you will use to post in all of your data submissions. This will be the link you place into all of your data submissions that you will be posting to Internet in the Posting section. (I`m going to show you how to do this in the Posting section of the training.)

Getting the Promotion Links for Each Click2Sell Company
Once you have located the company or companies you would like to post data for in Click2Sell, you will need to obtain their special promotion link in order to get credit for the submissions you produce through your promotions in Posting section of our program.

Getting Promotions Links for Your:

You will need to be logged into your Clickbank account to obtain the affiliate promotion links for any of the companies in Clickbank.


After you are logged into your account, click on "MARKETPLACE" button.

For our training purpose click on the "Business 2 Business" link in the marketplace

You can select any of the companies listed on the page.

To get your promotion link, click on the "PROMOTE" button next to the company in the Details section.

The first link listed on the page "Your Affiliate Link" will be the only link you will need. Disregard ALL of the other links listed on the page. You Click2Sell affiliate promotion link will look like this: http://download9856.skyneteas.click2sell.eu The will break down like this: http://download9856.skyneteas.click2sell.eu The first part in (Orange) will be your Click2Sell username The next part (Green) will be the Merchant name. NOTE: Each promotion will be different for each affiliate (you) and each company. So your promotion link will not be exactly as shown above, but the format will be the same. The promotion is the link you will need to use in the posting methods we will show you in POSTING section of this training program. So you will need to do this each time you choose a company from Click2Sell to submit data to the Internet. Whenever you want to get your affiliate promotion link for any Click2Sell companies you want to promote, click on the "PROMOTE" button and copy the link as shown above.

Best Click2Sell Companies to Promote
I will show you a formula I use to select good Click2Sell companies. This is not written is stone, but can get you a better idea on how to select good Click2Sell companies.

I`m going to show you how to select good Click2Sell companies by using two important factors: FACTOR 1: When looking at the performance stats of each company you will focus on two columns. I want you to ONLY focus on EARN %, and CONV. %. Why these two? The answer is this: The EARN % will be the percentage that this company is willing to pay you in commission of each sale. You ONLY want companies at or above 50% for each sale you produce. So make sure when selecting a company, you look at this to make sure you are going to make at least 50%. The CONV. % is another important performance stat to look for when choosing a company. This number represents the conversion per visitor to the companies Web site. When selecting the CONV.% make sure this number is NO lower than 0.50 You can search through Click2Sell Marketplace until you find companies 50% or above in EARN % and above the 0.50 CONV. %. This will still cover about 80% or more of the available Click2Sell companies. FACTOR 2: After you find companies that meet Factor 1's criteria, you now must inspect the Web site to see how well the Web site is layed out. Click on the "Product Description" to enter the site. Look at how good the website looks, here are some things to look at: 1.) Is it professional looking? 2.) What is its impression on you? 3.) Would you purchase this product if this was what you were looking to buy? 4.) Does the Web site get its selling point across? 5.) The site is NOT full of irrelevant information Some other good selling points on the pitch but are not required are: Time Sensitive - The web site is only offering a discount or reduced price for a limited amount of time. Testimonials - The web site has actual people that have tried the product and have been satisfied. If you find good companies using Factor 1 and Factor 2 you will have the first big piece of the puzzle. You do not have to follow these two factors if you choose. I`m just trying to eliminate you getting a bad company, or over saturated with workers company.

So when you want to make money for any companies in Click2Sell, do these following steps:

1.) Log into your Click2Sell admin members account.
2.) Choose the company you want to work with in the Marketplace.
3.) Get your affiliate promotion hoplink.
4.) Go to POSTING Article of my course and post your submissions to get paid.

As I said at the end of the first part in this articol I will show you how to select the PayDotCom Companies and which are the best Companies to promote. So follow this pice!

III. How to Select the Companies in PayDotCom

I`m going to show you how to locate and select the companies to promote in your PayDotCom account. I will show you how your pay will be determined based upon each company's offer to you.

How to Select Companies for:

You first will need to log into your PayDotCom account HERE


After you have logged into your account, click on the "PROMOTE PRODUCTS," and
then the select sub-menu "FROM MARKETPLACE" as show below:





You will see the following marketplace page:

On the marketplace page you will be able to locate any of the thousands of companies using two methods:

A. Search: You can search for a particular company by name, or by the type of product they are selling, e.g., "Work from Home," "Internet TV," "I-POD," "Diet Companies," etc.

B. Product Category: You can select companies by a particularcategory, such as: "Computing & Internet," "Money & Employment," "Health & Fitness," etc.

For training purposes i will search for a company using the search box. I`m going to type a search for a popular product, "9000 Satellite TV Channels" After you type a search for "9000 Satellite TV Channels" in the search box.

Then following page will be displayed:

You will get a list of companies on the result page. For our example we are going to use the company listed first. A. Companies Title and Sale Price: Here you see a brief description of the company, as well as the amount this company charges for their product or service. B. Pay Level and Commission Percentage: You will be considered "Level 1" and the amount shown for Level 1 is the percentage amount you will make for every sale your promotion provides. In our example company above you would make 60% of the $39.95 for every sale your promotion produces. So for this company you would make approximately $23.00 for every commission. Every company will offer different amounts of commissions; the usual amount is about 50% or more. C. Promote: When you decide to promote a company, you will click on this "PROMOTE" button to retrieve your special affiliate promotion links that are needed to add into all of your data submissions. This will be the link you place into all of your data submissions that you will be posting to Internet in part 2. (We are going to show you how to do this in the next section of the training.) D. Visit Sales Page: If you would like to visit the company's Web site before deciding to do work for them, you can do so by selecting the "Visit Sales Page" button. E. View Vendors Profile: If you would like to see information about the person or company that will be paying you, this is where you can see their information, as well as for any other companies listed on PayDotCom. F. Contact Vendor: If you have any questions you would like to ask the company/vendor, you can do so by clicking on the "Contact Vendor" option. G. APS: This score is calculated on a daily basis and it depends on a number of factors such as the number of sales, total refunds, and affiliate earnings with special emphasis put on the number of unique affiliates making sales over the last 150 days with recent transactions having more relevance. Basically the APS will tell the most popular companies and best earners for affiliates over the last 150 days. I will suggest to look at the high APS companies but do not entirely use high APS companies. The reason is that there are some very good companies on PayDotCom that may be newer to the program. So if you see a company you want to promote with a lower APS then go for it. The advantage of a lower APS is that you will not see a lot of people promoting it, which can help your chances at earnings. Most of these companies will approve you automatically. There are a few companies that will manually approve you, and they will send you notification of approval through the "Inbox" of your PayDotCom account.

This is how you will search for and select companies based on their pay offers. In training Section IV, I will show you how to exactly select your company's affiliate promotion links, and in training Section V I`m going to show you WHERE to post the promotion links for your pay.

IV. Getting the Promotion Links for Each PayDotCom Company

Once you have located the companies you would like to promote, you will need to obtain their special promotion links in order to get credit for any sales/leads/commissions or click credits you produce through your promotions.

You can use the TEXT TUTORIAL and/or the VIDEO TUTORIAL which is located at the end of the text tutorial training for your training of this section.

Promotion Links
Every company will assign you a Web-site link URL (Uniform Resource Locater) URLs are how the World Wide Web (Internet) identifies Web sites based on a special address, which is the URL For example, Yahoo's URL is http://www.Yahoo.com, which is how the World Wide Web identifies and locates Yahoo's Web site. The promotion links will work the same way since each company will embed special characters into their URL links that will identify you as the promoter, thus creating your promotion link.

These promotion links will only identify you as the provider, and when someone clicks on your promotion link to enter any of these companies Web sites, you will be credited for the visit. You will earn if that particular person were to purchase, try a free offer (lead), or for the visit itself, depending on the company. As mentioned each company will list how they will pay you before you decide to do any promotions for them.

Some of the affiliate promotion links/hoplinks are very long, so I suggest you copy and paste your links when it comes time to get these links for promoting. If you do not know how to copy and paste, you can go to the following link:

Getting Promotion Links for Your

Account

In order to get your affiliate promotion links for any PayDotcom companies, you will need to be logged into your PayDotcom account.

For our training purposes, I will have you pick up where you left off in Section IIIa, How to Select the Companies. Go back to the marketplace and type a search for "9000 Satellite TV Channels" and locate the company we were working with previously.

Any time you decide you would like to promote a company on PayDotCom, you will click on the "PROMOTE" button.

After you click on the "PROMOTE" button you will be at this page:

You will find your promotion link on this page under the section that says "Just the link." You will need to copy the complete link including the "https://" So, as for our example, our promotion link is:

https://paydotcom.com/r/13541/1name1/1152074/

The "1name1" in the promotion link will be replaced with YOUR PayDotCom username you chose when you signed up with PayDotCom.com.

Here is a breakdown of what a Affiliate Promotion Link contains:

PUBLISHER #: This is the unique code for the company you are promoting. This is how PayDotCom will track your promoting efforts for any of the companies your promote. Each affiliate promotion link you create for each company will have a different Publisher #.

AFFILIATE: You are the affiliate, and you will use your Nickname that your PayDotCom account is named (same one you used to sign up with). So when your data submissions create a sale, that it how it will be tracked back to your PayDotCom account. This will always be the same when you create an affiliate promotion link with PayDotCom.

CODE#: This is a code not relevant to track your promotions, it is an internal code only used by PayDotCom.

Another Example:
So if your PayDotCom nickname is "pete123," and the PayDotCom company's publisher ID # was "13541," (as we used in our example above) then the complete PayDotCom affiliate promotion link would look like this:

This is the link you will need to use in the promoting methods I will show you in Section VI of this training course. Remember EVERY COMPANY WILL ASSIGN YOU A DIFFERENT LINK, so you will need to do this each time you choose a company to submit data to the Internet.

To get you started you will have you sign up with the first pay account that will take care of all the administrative aspects of your data-entry marketing job. This administrative account will allow you to login at any time to check on your current earnings, select the companies you would like to work for, contact any of the companies you may have questions about, and get your promotion links to post to the Internet. PayDotCom is a 100% free to join, and you are never, EVER charged for their service! Remember, the companies you are working for are paying the administrative costs.

NOTE: PayDotCom.com is 100% FREE for you to use as an affiliate. If PayDotCom.com ever asks for money, DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY. The only people that have to pay at PayDotCom.com are the companies listing their Web sites on PayDotCom for you to work for. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your username is what you will use to create the special promotion links for all the companies you will be doing work for. So make sure it is professional looking to these companies.

A. MY SALES	Here is where you can get detailed reports on your earnings from each company for any particular time.
B. SALES ACTIVITY	This feature is similar to the "MY SALES" but is limited to earnings for the day, the last seven days, and the last thirty day.
C. PROMOTE PRODUCTS	When it comes time to choose any of the thousands of companies to promote, you will choose this option.
D. MY AFFILIATE SALES	Here is an up-to-the minute place to check your daily, last seven-days, and last thirty-day earnings.

You will never need to worry about the "MY PRODUCTS," "MANAGE AFFILIATES," or any of the "MAKE PAYMENT" features of your PayDotCom account. These are all for companies that are promoting their own sites on PayDotCom's marketplace.

You will not need to worry about the "PROMOTION CENTER" button either. This is only if you want to promote PayDotCom.com, which is not required.

The first administrative account is called Clickbank,

Who will list over 11,000 companies willing to pay you for your data submissions. They will pay you twice a month on or around the 1st and 15th. As an example, They will not take any taxes out of your check, but they will send a tax form 1099 at the end of the year to report your earnings. You will have the option to get paid by direct deposit, or by mailed check. You will need to provide Clickbank with an EIN which we have shown you how to obtain in our members home page. International members will not need to fill out any special tax forms, but will be required to report their own taxes to their government as specified by their tax laws.

The second administrative account is called PayDotCom.

They represent over 6,000 Web-based companies. Each company in PayDotCom's data base will pay you separately, and each company's pay dates are different. You will be paid the month after you have earned money. As an example, if you earned $3000 in May, then you would be paid in June. Since every company pays on different days, you realistically can get paid on everyday of the month. As an example, if you earned $3000 from 30 different companies in May, and all paid a different day, you could get paid $100 every day in June. Most of these companies only pay through PayPal, although some will pay you by check. We suggest getting paid through PayPal; this assures quick payment, with no chance of checks getting lost in the mail.
Our company (My-Data-Team), will pay you every month on the 15th of the month through your PayDotCom admin account. We also will use PayDotCom to track your earnings. We currently only will pay through PayPal or mailed check with prior approval from us. However, we are working on setting up payment options such as: Alertpay, or E-Gold.

Make Money With A Blog

Do you actually want to monetize your blog?
Some people have strong personal feelings with respect to making money from their blogs. If you think commercializing your blog is evil, immoral, unethical, uncool, lame, greedy, obnoxious, or anything along those lines, then don’t commercialize it.
If you have mixed feelings about monetizing your blog, then sort out those feelings first. If you think monetizing your site is wonderful, fine. If you think it’s evil, fine. But make up your mind before you seriously consider starting down this path. If you want to succeed, you must be congruent. Generating income from your blog is challenging enough — you don’t want to be dealing with self-sabotage at the same time. It should feel genuinely good to earn income from your blog — you should be driven by a healthy ambition to succeed. If your blog provides genuine value, you fully deserve to earn income from it. If, however, you find yourself full of doubts over whether this is the right path for you, you might find this article helpful: How Selfish Are You? It’s about balancing your needs with the needs of others.
If you do decide to generate income from your blog, then don’t be shy about it. If you’re going to put up ads, then really put up ads. Don’t just stick a puny little ad square in a remote corner somewhere. If you’re going to request donations, then really request donations. Don’t put up a barely visible “Donate” link and pray for the best. If you’re going to sell products, then really sell them. Create or acquire the best quality products you can, and give your visitors compelling reasons to buy. If you’re going to do this, then fully commit to it. Don’t take a half-assed approach. Either be full-assed or no-assed.
Can you make a decent income online?
Yes, absolutely. At the very least, a high five-figure annual income is certainly an attainable goal for an individual working full-time from home. I’m making a healthy income from My Bloggs, and the site is only 19 months old… barely a toddler. If you have a day job, it will take longer to generate a livable income, but it can still be done part-time if you’re willing to devote a lot of your spare time to it. I’ve always done it full-time.
Can most people do it?
No, they can’t. I hope it doesn’t shock you to see a personal development web site use the dreaded C-word. But I happen to agree with those who say that 99% of people who try to generate serious income from their blogs will fail. The tagline for this site is “Personal Development for Smart People.” And unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your outlook), smart people are a minority on this planet. So while most people can’t make a living this way, I would say that most smart people can. How do you know whether or not you qualify as smart? Here’s a good rule of thumb: If you have to ask the question, you aren’t.
If that last paragraph doesn’t flood my inbox with flames, I don’t know what will. OK, actually I do?

This kind of 99-1 ratio isn’t unique to blogging though. You’ll see it in any field with relatively low barriers to entry. What percentage of wannabe actors, musicians, or athletes ever make enough money from their passions to support themselves? It doesn’t take much effort to start a blog these days — almost anyone can do it. Talent counts for something, and the talent that matters in blogging is intelligence. But that just gets you in the door. You need to specifically apply your intelligence to one particular talent. And the best words I can think of to describe that particular talent are: web savvy.
If you are very web savvy, or if you can learn to become very web savvy, then you have an excellent shot of making enough money from your blog to cover all your living expenses… and then some. But if becoming truly web savvy is more than your gray matter can handle, then I’ll offer this advice: Don’t quit your day job.




Web savvy
What do I mean by web savvy? You don’t need to be a programmer, but you need a decent functional understanding of a variety of web technologies. What technologies are “key” will depend on the nature of your blog and your means of monetization. But generally speaking I’d list these elements as significant:

• blog publishing software
• HTML/CSS
• blog comments (and comment spam)
• RSS/syndication
• feed aggregators
• pings
• trackbacks
• full vs. partial feeds
• blog carnivals (for kick-starting your blog’s traffic)
• search engines
• search engine optimization (SEO)
• page rank
• social bookmarking
• tagging
• contextual advertising
• affiliate programs
• traffic statistics
• email

Optional: podcasting, instant messaging, PHP or other web scripting languages.
I’m sure I missed a few due to familiarity blindness. If scanning such a list makes your head spin, I wouldn’t recommend trying to make a full-time living from blogging just yet. Certainly you can still blog, but you’ll be at a serious disadvantage compared to someone who’s more web savvy, so don’t expect to achieve stellar results until you expand your knowledge base.
If you want to sell downloadable products such as ebooks, then you can add e-commerce, SSL, digital delivery, fraud prevention, and online databases to the list. Again, you don’t need to be a programmer; you just need a basic understanding of these technologies. Even if you hire someone else to handle the low-level implementation, it’s important to know what you’re getting into. You need to be able to trust your strategic decisions, and you won’t be able to do that if you’re a General who doesn’t know what a gun is.
A lack of understanding is a major cause of failure in the realm of online income generation. For example, if you’re clueless about search engine optimization (SEO), you’ll probably cripple your search engine rankings compared to someone who understands SEO well. But you can’t consider each technology in isolation. You need to understand the connections and trade-offs between them. Monetizing a blog is a balancing act. You may need to balance the needs of yourself, your visitors, search engines, those who link to you, social bookmarking sites, advertisers, affiliate programs, and others. Seemingly minor decisions like what to title a web page are significant. In coming up with the title of this article, I have to take all of these potential viewers into consideration. I want a title that is attractive to human visitors, drives reasonable search engine traffic, yields relevant contextual ads, fits the theme of the site, and encourages linking and social bookmarking. And most importantly I want each article to provide genuine value to my visitors. I do my best to create titles for my articles that balance these various needs. Often that means abandoning cutesy or clever titles in favor of direct and comprehensible ones. It’s little skills like these that help drive sustainable traffic growth month after month. Missing out on just this one skill is enough to cripple your traffic. And there are dozens of these types of skills that require web savvy to understand, respect, and apply.
This sort of knowledge is what separates the 1% from the 99%. Both groups may work just as hard, but the 1% is getting much better results for their efforts. It normally doesn’t take me more than 60 seconds to title an article, but a lot of experience goes into those 60 seconds. You really just have to learn these ideas once; after that you can apply them routinely.
Whenever you come across a significant web technology you don’t understand, look it up on Google or Wikipedia, and dive into it long enough to acquire a basic understanding of it. To make money from blogging it’s important to be something of a jack of all trades. Maybe you’ve heard the expression, “A jack of all trades is a master of none.” That may be true, but you don’t need to master any of these technologies — you just have to be good enough to use them. It’s the difference between being able to drive a car vs. becoming an auto mechanic. Strive to achieve functional knowledge, and then move on to something else. Even though I’m an experienced programmer, I don’t know how many web technologies actually work. I don’t really care. I can still use them to generate results. In the time it would take me to fully understand one new technology, I can achieve sufficient functional knowledge to apply several of them.
Thriving on change
Your greatest risk isn’t that you’ll make mistakes that will cost you. Your greatest risk is that you’ll miss opportunities. You need an entrepreneurial mindset, not an employee mindset. Don’t be too concerned with the risk of loss — be more concerned with the risk of missed gains. It’s what you don’t know and what you don’t do that will hurt you the worst. Blogging is cheap. Your expenses and financial risk should be minimal. Your real concern should be missing opportunities that would have made you money very easily. You need to develop antennae that can listen out for new opportunities. I highly recommend subscribing to Darren Rowse’s Problogger blog — Darren is great at uncovering new income-generating opportunities for bloggers.
The blogosphere changes rapidly, and change creates opportunity. It takes some brains to decipher these opportunities and to take advantage of them before they disappear. If you hesitate to capitalize on something new and exciting, you may simply miss out. Many opportunities are temporary. And every day you don’t implement them, you’re losing money you could have earned. And you’re also missing opportunities to build traffic, grow your audience, and benefit more people.
I used to get annoyed by the rapid rate of change of web technologies. It’s even more rapid than what I saw when I worked in the computer gaming industry. And the rate of change is accelerating. Almost every week now I learn about some fascinating new web service or idea that could potentially lead to big changes down the road. Making sense of them is a full-time job in itself. But I learned to love this insane pace. If I’m confused then everyone else is probably confused too. And people who only do this part-time will be very confused. If they aren’t confused, then they aren’t keeping up. So if I can be just a little bit faster and understand these technologies just a little bit sooner, then I can capitalize on some serious opportunities before the barriers to entry become too high. Even though confusion is uncomfortable, it’s really a good thing for a web entrepreneur. This is what creates the space for a college student to earn $1,000,000 online in just a few months with a clever idea. Remember this isn’t a zero-sum game. Don’t let someone else’s success make you feel diminished or jealous. Let it inspire you instead.
What’s your overall income-generation strategy?
I don’t want to insult anyone, but most people are utterly clueless when it comes to generating income from their blogs. They slap things together haphazardly with no rhyme or reason and hope to generate lots of money. While I’m a strong advocate of the ready-fire-aim approach, that strategy does require that you eventually aim. Ready-fire-fire-fire-fire will just create a mess.
Take a moment to articulate a basic income-generating strategy for your site. If you aren’t good at strategy, then just come up with a general philosophy for how you’re going to generate income. You don’t need a full business plan, just a description of how you plan to get from $0 per month to whatever your income goal is. An initial target goal I used when I first started this site was $3000 per month. It’s a somewhat arbitrary figure, but I knew if I could reach $3000 per month, I could certainly push it higher, and $3000 is enough income that it’s going to make a meaningful difference in my finances. I reached that level 15 months after launching the site (in December 2005). And since then it’s continued to increase nicely. Blogging income is actually quite easy to maintain. It’s a lot more secure than a regular job. No one can fire me, and if one source of income dries up, I can always add new ones. We’ll address multiple streams of income soon…
Are you going to generate income from advertising, affiliate commissions, product sales, donations, or something else? Maybe you want a combination of these things. However you decide to generate income, put your basic strategy down in writing. I took 15 minutes to create a half-page summary of my monetization strategy. I only update it about once a year and review it once a month. This isn’t difficult, but it helps me stay focused on where I’m headed. It also allows me to say no to opportunities that are inconsistent with my plan.
Refer to your monetization strategy (or philosophy) when you need to make design decisions for your web site. Although you may have multiple streams of income, decide which type of income will be your primary source, and design your site around that. Do you need to funnel people towards an order form, or will you place ads all over the site? Different monetization strategies suggest different design approaches. Think about what specific action you want your visitors to eventually take that will generate income for you, and design your site accordingly.
When devising your income strategy, feel free to cheat. Don’t re-invent the wheel. Copy someone else’s strategy that you’re convinced would work for you too. Do NOT copy anyone’s content or site layout (that’s copyright infringement), but take note of how they’re making money. I decided to monetize this site with advertising and affiliate income after researching how various successful bloggers generated income. Later I added donations as well. This is an effective combo.
